Compare Numbers
I've done this activity before with lima beans. It can be found www.kinderplans.com (you need to create a username). https://www.kinderplans.com/content/userfiles/files/-Members/MathProgram/MoreLessand%20AdditionSubtraction.pdf
On page 46 you can find the directions. Basically, this is used for addition. You spray paint lima beans red. So, one side of the lima bean is red and the other white. Let's say you want them to add up to 5. You would give them 5 beans to put in their cups. They shake their cup around and spill the beans out. They'll get different combinations like 3 red, 2 white, etc. They then color the correct colors on their lima bean worksheet (three should be colored red, two left white) found at: https://www.kinderplans.com/content/userfiles/files/-Members/MathProgram/Number5BlacklineMasters.pdf page 83. Once they've done this a few times, you can compare the different ways to add up to 5.
